Stainless steel means what is says...it's steel which will corrode or 'stain less' than for example carbon steel.There are many stainless steels from which knife blades are made,in general the harder the steel the better the edge that can be achieved but it becomes more difficult to sharpen.Also the harder the steel the more prone to breaking the blade becomes.Generally,as with most things in life you get pretty much what you pay for,and buying a cheap un branded shiny knife and expecting it to perform like a miniature Samurai sword is usually a recipe for dissapointment. A blunt knike needs greater pressure than a sharp one making it more inclined to slip,so you are more likely to cut yourself with a blunt knife than a sharp one.

Current Knife Law.(2002) ..It may be an offence under the criminal justice act (1988) section 139 to carry in a public place a bladed or sharply pointed instrument without good reason.The exception being a folding pocket knife with a cutting edge less than 3 inches long.

Sale and Marketing of knives.It is illegal to sell to someone under 16 a knife,the exception being a folding pocket knife with a cutting edge under 3 inches long. The criminal justice act (1988) banned the sale of throwing stars,belt buckle knives,push daggers and butterfly knives.Flick knives have been banned since the 1950's.

It is an offence to sell or market knives in a way that suggests that they are suited for personal injury or attack for example naming a knife as stalker,killer,combat or ripper or by displaying the knife stuck in a doll,mannekin or dummy.
